The honors keep on coming in for Emporia State University’s quarterback and former Muldrow Bulldog Braden Gleason, as he was named the D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Washburn last Saturday.

Braden Gleason

Gleason completed 86 percent of his passes for 421 yards in Emporia State’s 38-23 victory over Washburn in the 119th edition of the Turnpike Tussle. Gleason completed eight of his first nine passes, hitting four different receivers, for 117 yards as he staked the Hornets to a 14-0 lead after their first two drives. He finished the game 42-of-49 for 421 yards with four touchdowns. It is his second 400-yardplus passing game of the season. He has thrown for at least two touchdowns in every game this season and has either thrown for or rushed for at least two touchdowns in 12 straight games dating back to last season. Gleason moved past Pittsburg State’s Anthony Abenoja (9,419 yards from 2011-14) into sixth place on the MIAA career passing list with 9.663 passing yards and passed Pittsburg State’s Neal Philpot (10,168 yards from 2001-04) for fifth place on the MIAA career total offense list with 10,582 yards of total offense.

Gleason was also named The College Football Network Offensive Player of the Week and the MIAA Football Offensive Athlete of the Week as presented by Mammoth Turf.

The now 24th-ranked Hornets will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., on Saturday to take on No. 16 Central Missouri. It is the third Top 25 matchup for Emporia State this season, all on the road.
