Muldrow School Board approves annual school election

Muldrow Public School’s Board of Education convened for its regular scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. on Oct. 9, where several significant decisions and updates were discussed and voted upon.

Board members Chad Sutton, Darrin Phelps, Darin Huggins, Colby Wilson, and Dowen Green were all in attendance for the meeting.

Eric Bledsoe from Bledsoe, Hewett & Gullekson presented the District’s 2022-23 annual Audit Report, which was carried unanimously by the board members.

The Board of Education’s call for the annual school election was approved unanimously, along with a resolution calling for the election, and authorizing the school superintendent to file the appropriate papers with the election board, provide the required notice to the newspaper, and authorizing the printing of ballots.

Sutton proposed a School Security Officer Agreement with the Town of Muldrow for the 2023-24 school year, and it was also approved with unanimous votes.

The board approved various items, including a resignation from Greg Sharp; 2023-24 General Fund encumbrances 268 to 313 for $82,166.41; 2023-24 Building Fund encumbrances 14 to 17 for $17,249.96; 2023-24 General Fund Payroll encumbrances 50175 to 50186 for $9,367.15; and the appointment of Carissa Campbell as a substitute teacher.

During the Superintendent’s Report, Superintendent Clifta Fugett discussed the October School Calendar, reviewed the October student counts, and presented the current School Board member points.

Also approved during the meeting was the Reading Sufficiency Plan for 2023-24 as presented by Joe Phillips, and the employment of Mark Hallum as police chief on a temporary contract for the school year.

The board approved fund transfers from the Athletic Account, Broadcasting Account, and the Softball Account to the FFA Account.

Sutton also proposed changes to several policies of the District, including EFA-E1, EFA-R1, EFA-P, FE, and FNF-R. Green seconded the motion, and the changes were approved with unanimous votes.

An easement of public highway to Sequoyah County was granted by the board, and Shelby Michael was approved as a mentor teacher for Terry Edwards.

The board decided to table the Memorandum of Understanding Agreement between Muldrow Public Schools and Sequoyah County for further consideration.
