ORU men’s soccer team blanks Western Illinois
TULSA — The No. 18 ranked Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team extended its home game win streak to 12 after defeating Western Illinois for the fourthstraight match 2-0 on Saturday evening at the Case Soccer Complex.
TULSA — The No. 18 ranked Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team extended its home game win streak to 12 after defeating Western Illinois for the fourth straight match 2-0 on Saturday evening at the Case Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles (8-2-3 overall, 4-0-2 in Summit League play) took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute on a header goal by Jose Estrada off a corner kick by Felipe Media. Estrada’s goal proved to be the game winner and it was his third goal of the season. Medina was credited with the assist.
Five minutes later in the 43rd minute, Haruki Yamazaki slid to the left post to put the ball over line for ORU’s second goal of the night and for his third goal of the season. Yamazaki’s goal was sent out to Andrew Nunez by Thiago Patto and Nunez followed up with a pass to defenders to the left post where Yamazki scored. Nunez and Patto both earned assists on the play.
Saturday’s win over the Leathernecks (2-12-1, 1-5) was the fourth-straight over the Leathernecks and it extended ORU’s home game winning streak to 12, going back to last season. The Golden Eagles have defeated the Leathernecks in the past four outings by a combined score of 19-0.
ORU was slated to take on Central Arkansas on Tuesday night at the Case Soccer Complex.
