Warriors rout Porum for 2nd consecutive district win

PORUM — The Webbers Falls Warriors won their second straight District B-5 game by mercy rule as they routed the Porum Panthers 58-13 in a game called with 3:53 left in the third quarter.

After the Warriors (7-1 overall, 2-1 in district play) stopped the Panthers (2-6, 0-3) on downs, Maddux Shelby scored the first of his three touchdowns on the next play. Aiden Turley’s two-point conversion run put the Warriors ahead 8-0 with 10:11 left in the first quarter.

After the Panthers were stopped on downs for the second straight possession, it took just 60 seconds later for Maddux Shelby to score his second TD. Braydan Robinson’s two-point conversion run doubled the Webbers Falls advantage to 16-0 with 5:46 remaining in the period.

Once again, the Warriors stopped the Panthers, but this time Porum punted. The kick went to Brutus Robinson, who went the distance for a touchdown. Spencer Thao’s extra point upped the Webbers Falls lead to 23-0 with 3:13 left in the period.

With 54 seconds remaining in the quarter, Webbers Falls defender Gunner Carey picked off a Porum pass to set up the next scoring drive for the Warriors. Zane Nolan capped the gift possession with a TD run with 38 seconds left in the period. Thao’s PAT gave Webbers Falls a 30-0 lead after the first quarter.

As the second quarter commenced, the Panthers once again were stopped on downs with 10:45 left before halftime. The drive was cashed in by Gunner Shelby who scored his lone touchdown on the night. Thao’s extra point increased the Webbers Falls lead to 37-0 with 8:54 remaining in the first half.

For the fourth time in the first half, Porum’s offense was stopped on downs with 5:41 left in the first half. That Webbers Falls drive was capped off by Thao’s field goal to give the Warriors a 40-0 halftime lead.

The Panthers scored their first TD with 9:10 left in the third quarter, cutting their deficit to 40-6.

Just 23 seconds later, Maddux Shelby recorded his hat trick with his third rushing TDs with 8:47 remaining in the period to put the Warriors up 46-6.

After the Panthers scored on their next drive to cut their deficit to 46-13 with 5:34 left in the quarter, the Warriors only needed 19 seconds to score again as Nolan scored his second touchdown on the night to make it 5213 with 5:15 remaining in the quarter.

The Panthers got stopped on downs for the fifth time in the game with 4:07 left in the period, then 14 second later Dakota Moore scored the game’s final TD for the Warriors to put the game into mercy-rule status with 3:53 remaining in the period.
