GRIDIRON NOTES

Several crucial games on tap for tonight (UPDATED)

With this being Week 9 of the high school football regular season, you can pretty much expect several crucial games are on tap tonight.

With this being Week 9 of the high school football regular season, you can pretty much expect several crucial games are on tap tonight.

In District 4A-4, the Sallisaw Black Diamonds need to win tonight at home against Fort Gibson and next week at Madill to secure third place, which as of this morning would destine them for a road playoff game at Miami — which holds the third-place tiebreaker with Oologah.

In District 2A-5, the Vian Wolverines are visiting the Prague Red Devils tonight for the district’s top spot as both teams are tied at 5-0. The winner will all but secure the top seed from the district in the upcoming Class 2A playoffs.

In District A-8, the Central Tigers can all but lock up the district championship outright with a home win over Panama. Entering tonight’s game at Tiger Stadium, the Tigers are a perfect 5-0, with the Razorbacks a game back at 4-1 — thanks to last week’s Hogs’ home win over Gore.

That loss for the Pirates pretty much means they have to win out to secure third place. However, they could end up being runner-up if the Pirates win out and the Razorbacks lose out. Gore has the current third-place tiebreaker with Pocola, since the Pirates beat the Indians three weeks ago.

In District B-6, the Gans Grizzlies are in must-win mode from here on as they need to win tonight’s road district game at Foyil and next week’s Senior Night game against Keota just to get to 2-3 and have a chance at one of the four playoff berths from the district.

In District B-5, the Webbers Falls Warriors can be second and have a home playoff game if they win out. If they win out, and Webbers Falls’ opponent tonight, the Caddo Bruins, upset Dewar next week, there would be a three-way tie between Webbers Falls, Caddo and Dewar. Then, district points will determine the district’s top seed, second seed and third seed for the Class B playoffs.

Keep up with everything through Your TIMES.
