Warriors in key district game tonight against Caddo Bruins

The last two games of the season are going to be crucial ones for the Webbers Falls Warriors.
The first of those two games will be at 7 tonight at Smokey Cox Stadium when they entertain the Caddo Bruins in a key District B-5 contest. It also will be Senior Night.
Going into tonight’s game, Caddo (7-1 overall) and Dewar (8-0) are tied for the district’s top spot with 3-0 records. The Bruins and the Dragons will meet in next Friday night’s regular-season finale.
The Warriors (7-1, 2-1) are a game back of the Bruins and the Dragons, who beat the Warriors in the District B-5 opener Oct. 6 in Dewar when the Warriors were without three key players who had been ejected two weeks before in the Cave Springs game due to coming off the bench when players began fighting.
If the Warriors win out with wins tonight over Caddo and next week at Quinton, they will do no worse than second place. If they win out, and Caddo knocks off Dewar next week, all three teams will be tied for the district’s top spot at 4-1. Then, it will come down to district points to ascertain who will be the top seed, second seed and third seed in the district for the Class B playoffs.
However, if the Warriors fall tonight, then next week’s road game against Quinton will decide who will be the third and fourth seeds from the district for the postseason.
“We played pretty well Thursday (Oct. 19) night,” Webbers Falls coach Trent Holt said. “We did some good stuff. We’re pretty healthy as far as everybody is concerned. That’s the most healthy we’ve been. The kids are excited and playing well. It (Caddo) is going to be a big challenge for us. If we can get the next two, and something else happens, we could end up tied in the district (lead) — or second (place) anyway. It’s a way it could go, but there’s still a lot of football yet to be played. It’s just two games, but they’re big ones. If we can win the next two, that would put us second for sure, and get a home playoff game — you always want to play at home if you can. We’d go 9-1, which would really be a great year for us.”
Holt said the Bruins like to use the passing game to be successful.
“They can throw the football,” he said. “They can sling it. Their quarterback can throw it really well. He’s a good running quarterback. He’s shifty and pretty big. They have a couple of kids who can run it pretty well and catch the ball well. We’ve got our hands full. It’s their passing game. If they didn’t line up and throw it as well, I’d feel a whole lot more comfortable. It will be a challenge.”
Keeping Caddo’s passing game in check will be the biggest factor Midway for the Warriors with which to deal.
“We just can’t give up a bunch of long touchdown passes over the top,” Holt said. “That’s what they’ve done on a lot of teams that they’ve played. If we can make them catch the ball in front of us, get some stops and control the ball, we’ll be OK.”
