Wolverines in District 2A-5 road showdown tonight at Prague

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

There’s one more obstacle in the way of the Vian Wolverines in winning yet another District 2A-5 title. That obstacle goes by the name of the Prague Red Devils.

There’s one more obstacle in the way of the Vian Wolverines in winning yet another District 2A-5 title. That obstacle goes by the name of the Prague Red Devils.

Both the Wolverines (6-2 overall) and the Red Devils (8-0) are undefeated atop the district standings at 5-0, with the Sequoyah-Tahlequah Indians (5-3) — Vian’s Senior Night opponent next week at St. John Stadium — a game back in the standings at 4-1.

The winner of tonight’s 7 p.m. game in Prague likely will end up getting the district title — or at least the No. 1 seed from the district in the Class 2A playoff which will start two weeks from tonight.

The loser of tonight’s district showdown likely will finish second. The one district loss the Indians suffered was to Prague, which beat Sequoyah-Tahlequah 47-21 two weeks ago.

The Indians will play their Senior Night game tonight at home against Warner. If Sequoyah-Tahlequah wins out and Prague beats Vian, the Wolverines would drop to third place.

Prague ends the regularseason next Friday night at Okemah. If the Red Devils win out they will be outright district champions.

If Vian wins out, the Wolverines will be outright district champions. However, if Vian, Prague and Sequoyah-Tahlequah finish in a three-way tie for the district title, then district points will determine the District 2A-5 top seed, second seed and third seed for the u p c o m i n g Class 2A playoffs, which will begin two weeks from tonight.

TO GET THERE — Take Interstate 40 west to Oklahoma State Highway 99-U.S. 377 (Seminole-Prague exit, Exit 200). Take Oklahoma State Highway 99-U.S. 377 north to Prague.
