The Sooners (8-10-2) played the top-10 Cougars tough in the first half, allowing just one goal to one of the nation’s top offenses, but No. 2-seeded BYU (15-1-3) opened it up in the second half, scoring five additional goals on 13 shots to advance to the conference semifinals.
The Sooners eliminated Bedlam rival Oklahoma State 1-0 in the opening round on Friday in Round Rock, Texas.
The loss snapped OSU’s nine-game unbeaten streak against its Bedlam rival as the seventh-seeded Cowgirls concluded their season with a 12-8-0 record. OSU is now 3110-5 all time against OU. The Sooners got their first win over OSU since 2018.
In a scoreless opening half, OSU outshot the Sooners by a 6-5 margin, but OU owned a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Sooners finally broke through with 14:52 remaining when Esalenna Galekhutle dribbled past a pair of defenders and delivered a shot from the top right of the 18-yard box into the net.
