Webbers Falls initiates property abatement process

In a special town meeting held on Oct. 24, the Webbers Falls Board of Trustees, led by Mayor Johnny Pollard, addressed a pressing concern regarding property abatement in the town, particularly focusing on the Garden Walk Apartments at 100 West Oak Street.

The meeting, held at 6 p.m., saw a roll call confirming the presence of trustees, which included Jewell Hall, Danny Haley, John Morgan and Robert Ross Jr.

The main item on the agenda was the discussion and potential action regarding the Webbers Falls Property Abatement. Code enforcement officers, Lisa Settlemyer and Justin Ohl, presented the board with an assortment of pictures and letters related to the property owners of Garden Walk Apartments. They also provided an update on their efforts to establish contact with the property owners.

The abatement process, which was at the forefront of the meeting, involved input from the town attorney. After deliberation, Trustee Haley made a motion to initiate the abatement process for Webbers Falls Properties. This motion was seconded by Mayor Pollard, and the decision was reached unanimously, with all present voting in favor.

Settlemyer and Ohl then proceeded to provide updates on the progress being made in relation to properties across the town. Additionally, the town attorney highlighted the importance of property owners and residents maintaining the ditches located on their properties, emphasizing that it is their responsibility to mow the ditches.

The meeting, which lasted for over an hour, was finally adjourned at 7:31 p.m.

The initiation of the abatement process is a significant step towards addressing property issues in Webbers Falls, as the town looks to ensure that properties are well-maintained and in compliance with local regulations.
