6 former Arkansas golfers doing well at 2023 PGA Q School
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Six former Razorbacks — Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira, Luis Garza, Wil Gibson, Luke Long, Julian Perico and Tyson Reeder — have advanced to the second stage of the 2023 PGA Q School.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Six former Razorbacks — Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira, Luis Garza, Wil Gibson, Luke Long, Julian Perico and Tyson Reeder — have advanced to the second stage of the 2023 PGA Q School.
Long and Garza won their respective First Stage events and are guaranteed status on 2024 PGA Tour Americas, should they not earn PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour status after Second Stage and/or Final Stage.
Fernandez de Oliveira was exempt into the Second Stage based on his No. 16 ranking in the final PGA Tour University standings from this past spring.
Garza defeated a pair of Razorbacks — Gibson and Reeder — that tied for second in the Muskogee First Stage. Garza was 10-under while Gibson and Reeder were 9-under which allowed them to advance to the Second Stage.
Long won his First Stage, played at Rockwall, Texas, by seven strokes thanks to a final-round 63. He finished his 72 holes at -21.
Perico led his Second Stage event in Semmes, Ala., after an opening-round 65 posted rounds of 69-66-67 to finish runner up at 21-under par to advance to the Second Stage.
Gibson and Perico had to advance through prequalifying into the First Stage. Gibson was second at 13-under in his pre-qualifying event in Newton, Kan., while Perico was second at -14 in his event in Greenville, Ala.
