Cowboys roll past OBU in basketball exhibition game

Rookies Justin McBride (game-high 19 points), Eric Dailey Jr. (14 points on 7-of-7 shooting), Brandon Garrison (11 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks) and Connor Dow (11 points on 3-of-4 3-point shooting) all made strong impressions in their unofficial Cowboy debuts.
Veteran guard Bryce Thompson (10 points) and Jacksonville graduate transfer Mike Marsh (10 points, eight rebounds) also finished in doublefigures for OSU, which won its 56th straight exhibition game at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Trevin Wade led the scoring for OBU with 12 points.
Helped by eight dunks, OSU shot 56.3 percent from the field while holding the visitors to 27.3 percent.
The Cowboys outscored the Bison 60-28 in the paint, 19-2 on fast breaks and 25-4 off turnovers. They forced 13 and committed just eight.
After allowing the game’s first basket, OSU used runs of 11-0 and 18-0 to take control. The Cowboys scored on nearly 70 percent of their first half possessions to take a 49-21 edge into the break and led by as many as 46 points down the stretch.
The Cowboys open the regular season Monday against Abilene Christian as part of a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The Cowgirls tip off at 5 p.m. against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, and the Cowboys take the court at 8 p.m.
