Lady Vikings runner-up, Vikings 3rd in Region II Cross Country Championship

MENA, Ark. — The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings cross country team finished in second place and the Vikings third in the 2023 NJCAA Region II Cross Country Championship, which took place last Saturday at Mena Lions Disc Golf Course.

MENA, Ark. — The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings cross country team finished in second place and the Vikings third in the 2023 NJCAA Region II Cross Country Championship, which took place last Saturday at Mena Lions Disc Golf Course.

The Lady Vikings were runners-up with 39 points, finishing behind regional champion Northwest Arkansas Community College — which finished with 39 points.

Two Lady Vikings made the top 10 in the 5k race — freshman Jacie Moffett was fifth (22:43.6) and freshman Lin Lee was 10th (24:46.9).

Freshman Destiny Lawson was 16th (26:23.4), freshman Valeria Velasco was 22nd (27:48.5) and freshman Mackenzie Lingenfelter was 25th (28:28.1).

In the men’s 8k race, the Vikings were third with 75 points. Northwest Arkansas Community College completed the sweep of the regional titles with a winning point total of 20, with regional-meet host Arkansas-Rich Mountain coming in second (37 points).

The fastest Viking was freshman Brayden Stovall, who was 16th (31:16.7). Freshman Dylan Torres was 19th (32:00.4), sophomore Brady Allen was 21st (32:33.5), sophomore Brady Billingsley was 25th (33:46), sophomore Jonathan Figueroa was 28th (36:27.8) and sophomore Caleb Berger was 29th (37:20.4).

The NJCAA National Championship Meet will be Nov. 11 in Huntsville, Ala.
