Sallisaw wrestler places 2nd in Luther Hill Invitational for CASC
Carl Albert State College sophomore 184-pound wrestler Trey Hudgens from Sallisaw came in second in the Luther Hill Invitational, which took place Saturday at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Hudgens went 3-1 on the day, including a firstround bye.
INDIANOLA, Iowa — Carl Albert State College sophomore 184-pound wrestler Trey Hudgens from Sallisaw came in second in the Luther Hill Invitational, which took place Saturday at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Hudgens went 3-1 on the day, including a first-round bye.
After his opening-round bye, he pinned Indian Hills Community College’s Steven Marquez in 4:01 in the quarterfinals and got a 15-5 major decision over Buena Vista’s Ryan Hunter in the semifinals.
However, Hudgens lost 6-3 to North Iowa Area Community College’s Jessey Colas in the finals.
One other Sallisaw wrestler saw action in the tournament for the Vikings. Heavyweight Ryan Bashant-Honeycutt lost both of his matches, being pinned by Indian Hills CC’s Noah Iobe in the opening round, then losing 6-4 to Buena Vista’s Colton O’Hern in the opening round of consolation action. Two Vikings did win championships — Noah Smith at 165 pounds in the open division and Cayden Felts at 165 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division.
Hunter Hall finished third at 197 pounds in the open division, Matthan Mason tied for third at 174 pounds as did Ryder Clark at 133 pounds, Mason Gordon tied for fifth at 149 pounds, Cooper Evans was sixth at 141 pounds, Eric Hussaini tied for eighth at 125 pounds and Nathan Hutchinson at 133 pounds and Connor Perkins at 141 pounds tied for ninth.
For the Lady Vikings, 109-pounder Lexi Miller came in second place, Chanelle Alburg at 123 pounds and Alondra Valles at 143 pounds each tied for third place, Kylie Hulse at 155 pounds and Grace Thompson at 170 pounds each tied for fifth and Kaylee Campbell tied for ninth at 116 pounds. On Thursday, both CASC teams lost their duals against host Indian Hills CC at the Multi Purpose Building in Centerville, Iowa.
The Vikings lost 24-17, but no further information was available at press time.
The Vikings fell 36-16 to Indian Hills, with the only wins for CASC coming by Miller by forfeit at 109 pounds and Valles with a 10-0 technical fall at 143 pounds.
The CASC squads were slated to return to action late Tuesday afternoon in road duals against the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., followed by the Vikings entertaining Ouachita Baptist at 7 tonight at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse on the CASC-Poteau campus.
