Vikings place in own tournament after splitting duals against Schreiner University on Friday

Seven Carl Albert State College wrestlers made it to runner-up in their respective weight classes at the Viking Open, which took place Saturday, and the Lady Viking Open, which took place Sunday, at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse on the CASC-Poteau Campus.

POTEAU — Seven Carl Albert State College wrestlers made it to runner-up in their respective weight classes at the Viking Open, which took place Saturday, and the Lady Viking Open, which took place Sunday, at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse on the CASC-Poteau Campus.

In Saturday’s Viking Open, Eric Hussaini was runner-up at 125 pounds, Jaden Two Lance was second at 149 pounds, Mason Gordon was runner-up at 149 pounds in the B Class, Matthan Mason was second at 174 pounds, Ethan Day was runner-up at 174 pounds in the B Class and Hunter Hall was second at 197 pounds.

In Sunday’s Lady Viking Open, Calli Connally was second at 101 pounds, while heavyweight wrestler Angeline Wetselline was runner-up.

As for other Lady Vikings, Malia Kehne was third at 136 pounds, Avery Fiddler was third at heavyweight, Lexi Miller was fourth at 109 pounds and Rachel Dislike was fourth at 123 pounds.

The Vikings and Lady Vikings saw action on Friday in men’s-women’s set of home duals against Schreiner University at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.

The Vikings defeated the Mountaineers 46-5 behind pinfall victories by Hussaini at 133 pounds, Cale Glover at 157, Noah Smith at 165 and Austin Blair at heavyweight.

R.J. Jones (125 pounds, 18-0 score), Two Lance (149, 18-2) and Josiah Rhodes (174, 20-5) won by technical falls, while Mason (184, 11-2) and Hall (197, 15-4) each won by major decisions.

However, the Lady Vikings lost 29-17 as CASC only won three matches.

Miller (109 pounds, 10-0 score) and Alondra Valles (143, 11-0) won by technical falls, while Kehne (136) won her match by injury default.

The Vikings traveled to Wednesday night to Parsons, Kan., to face host Labette Community College and Barton Community College, followed by a home dual slated for Thursday night against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.

The Vikings and Lady Vikings will participate in the Lindenwood Open in St. Charles, Mo., over the weekend. The men’s open will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by the women’s open at 9 a.m. Sunday.
