School board approves company for multi-purpose building project

The Sallisaw School Board approved a company to manage a multi-use building and classroom construction project during their meeting last Monday, as well as approving personnel and other regular agenda items.

The Sallisaw School Board approved a company to manage a multi-use building and classroom construction project during their meeting last Monday, as well as approving personnel and other regular agenda items.

Bill Buckner (B&B Welding) was approved as the construction manager for the ESSER III (795) construction project for a multi-use/classroom building. The item was approved based on the request submitted by Sallisaw School Superintendent Steve Barrett.

The board also approved a lease agreement between Sallisaw Public Schools and the Old Sallisaw High School Association, which is renewed annually.

The board also approved Barrett as an approved signing agent for Sallisaw Public Schools Real Estate transactions.

Other business included the approval of Katie Bell as adjunct instructor for Elementary Ed at Eastside Elementary for the 2023-24 school year; and Leah Agent as Adjunct Instructor for Anatomy and Physiology at Indian Capital Technology Center with Career Tech.

Approved also was the Student Fundraiser/Activity account use for the 2023-24 School Year.

Facility use requests were approved for the Sallisaw Youth League to use the Port Arthur Soccer Fields for practices and games starting now until through Oct. 1, 2024, contingent on them providing a copy of their liability insurance.

Requests also were approved for the Cherokee Nation Community Meeting at the Sallisaw Middle School Cafeteria on Nov. 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Approved also was a request from the Sallisaw Youth League to use the Eastside Gym for basketball practices from Nov. 13 through Feb. 17 from 5 to 9 p.m., and the use of the Sallisaw Middle School Gym for basketball games from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 6, 2024, through Feb. 17, 2024, from 8 a.m. unto 1 p.m.

Following executive session, the board approved to hire Donna Leuty as the Eastside Elementary Special Ed Teacher for the 2023-24 school year.

They also approved to hire Justin Haywood as an Assistant Golf Coach and Andrew Miller as an Assistant Soccer Coach, for the 2023-24 school year.

The board also approved all encumbrances, treasurer’s report and activity fund reports presented by Steve Merrill.
