Shopping time for my wife and I begins this weekend. If you need some suggestions for the hunters, fishermen and outdoorsmen in your life, here are a few suggestions from the magazines, Field and Stream and Outdoor Life: Duke Cannon Supply Company Big Ass Gun Smoke Brick of Soap — As an outdoorsman, you trudge through the woods and hike across the horizon in search of your next conquest. Designed by WoodHaven Sting Team member Sadler McGraw, the Cluck ‘n Purr utilizes a unique two-pot system. Best Daypack: Mystery Ranch Mule — Most hunters need a pack of some kind, and few of us have one that actually fits our needs. This year, spend a little extra, and give the hunter in your life a pack that will not only last a long time, but to will also be comfortable no matter how tough the hunt gets. In Outdoor Life’s “best hunting backpacks,” gear testers recommend Mystery Ranch Mule pack for its value and versatility. One tester reported that the pack is “perfect for packing everything I need for the treestand or hunting from the ground.” It isn’t overly bulky, but it expands to meet the needs of a hunter headed out or one headed back packing out an animal. Straps also allow someone to carry a bow or rifle on their back. It comes in three colors. The cost is $150.
Best Rifle Case: Pelican V770 Vault Single Rifle Case — Pelican brings all of its nearly 50 years of casebuilding to a price-point solution in the Vault series. The high-impact polymer shell is crushproof and has four push-button latches and two 5/16-inch padlock holes for safekeeping and air travel. The V770 interior tapes at 50 inches by 10 inches by six inches, so it’s long enough for magnum rifles and most standard shotguns. It comes with five layers of protective foam, so it’s a snap to custom cut a gun-cradling fit for your specific firearm. The cost is $170.
Those are just a few of the suggestions I have seen for this holiday season. I hope to find a few items underneath my Christmas tree.
