Football seasons come to an end in state quarterfinals

The 2023 high school football seasons came to a screeching halt Friday night as both the Central Tigers and the Vian Wolverines lost their respective state quarterfinal playoff games.

The historic perfect season for the Tigers ended with a 41-0 Class A state quarterfinal loss to the Hooker Bulldogs on Friday night in Newcastle.

The Tigers end the season at 12-1, becoming state quarterfinalists for the first time in school history.

The Wolverines were handed their second loss of the season at the hands of the Class 2A state champions Washington Warriors as Washington beat Vian 47-14 Friday night at Ada’s East Central University. The same two team opened the 2023 season against each other Aug. 25 in Washington, Okla., with the host Warriors prevailing 55-13.

The Wolverines finish the season at 8-5.
