Black Diamonds place in Warner Eagle Classic, Tulsa Union Tournament

The first two tournaments of the 2023-24 season for the Sallisaw Black Diamonds wrestling team were pretty successful.

The first two tournaments of the 2023-24 season for the Sallisaw Black Diamonds wrestling team were pretty successful.

In the Warner Eagle Classic on Nov. 20, a total of 10 Black Diamonds placed.

In the high school division, Brody Mills (157 pounds) and Morgan Duke (113) won championships, while Mason Duke (132) was runners-up.

Parker Frederick (132 pounds) was third, while Dawson Glover (132) was fourth.

In the junior high division, Talon Flynn (140 pounds), Briar James (132) and Mylz Oft (80) were all second, Jaxton Roth (119) was third and Zander Gutierrez (132) was fourth.

At the Tulsa Union Tournament on Nov. 18, once more the Black Diamonds had 10 matmen place.

In the high school division, Mills won the title at 165 pounds, Mattix Casebolt was runner-up at 120, Morgan Duke was third at 113 and Mason Duke was fourth at 132.

In the boys sixth-seventh grade division, Oft was second at 80 pounds, Mason Leach (73 pounds), Xander Montgomery (86) and James (132) were third and Roth (119) and Alex Escobar (195) were fourth.

The Sallisaw Takedown Club Tournament for grades six through eight will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at Paul Post Fieldhouse.

The Black Diamonds high school wrestlers will next be in action at noon Dec. 8-9 at the Bristow Tournament before having their home opener in a triangular with Poteau and Cushing beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 14 at Paul Post Fieldhouse. During the night, the Sallisaw Takedown Club will have a chili supper and recognize Youth Night.
