STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Oklahoma State wrestler Izzak Olejnik picked up an 8-2 decision over No. 4 Dean Hamiti of Wisconsin at the NWCA All-Star Classic presented by Cliff Keen, which took place Nov 21.
The match remained scoreless after the first three minutes of action, but Olejnik found his offense in the second, recording a takedown and ride out to finish the period with a 3-1 edge. Olejnik, who entered the event ranked No. 6 at 165 pounds by Intermat, then escaped early in the third, secured his riding time point and iced the match with a late takedown.
The All-Star Classic is an exhibition event, meaning results from the competition do not count towards a wrestler’s record or RPI, but Olejnik’s victory continues the strong start to his Cowboy career. He is 5-0 on the season, earning bonus points in each of his five matches, and now boasts an exhibition win against a topfive opponent. Hamiti entered the event with a 5-1 record and had won each of the previous three collegiate matches between him and Olejnik.
Olejnik and the Cowboys will return to action Friday and Saturday at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
