Webbers Falls teams split Wilson Tiger Classic openers

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

HENRYETTA — The Webbers Falls basketball teams split their Wilson Tiger Classic tournament openers on Tuesday.

The Lady Warriors got past Schulter 37-34 to put them into the championship semifinals against Summit Christian, which took place Thursday afternoon.

The Webbers Falls-Summit Christian winner will meet the winner of Thursday night’s other championship semifinal between host Wilson (Henryetta) and Weleetka in the championship game at 6:20 p.m. Saturday. The two semifinal losers will square off in the third-place game at 3:40 p.m. Saturday.

The Warriors lost their opening-round game Tuesday night, falling 60-47 to Weleetka.

The Warriors will meet Epic School in the consolation semifinals at 5:45 this afternoon, with the winner playing for the consolation championship at 2:20 p.m. Saturday.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Warriors (3-0) jumped out to an 8-6 lead after a quarter, which became a 19-14 halftime advantage and a 31-22 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Lady Bulldogs refused to go away as they outscored the Lady Warriors 12-6 in the final period, but Schulter’s rally came up short.

Teralynn Colston scored a game-high 14 points and Bridgette Baer added 13 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Abby Pense with eight points and Cheyanne Herrier with two points.

In the boys’ contest, the Outlaws jumped out to a 25-15 lead after the first eight minutes, but the Warriors (1-2) bounced back with a 13-6 second quarter to cut the deficit to 31 28 at halftime. However, Weleetka outscored Webbers Falls 29 19 in the second half to seal the deal. In defeat, Stryker Chappell led Webbers Falls with 24 points, followed by Maddux Shelby with 11 points, Caleb Dishman with eight points and Denver Morgan and Luke Pierce with two points apiece.
