Gans hoopsters split home games with McCurtain

The Gans High School basketball teams split their home games with McCurtain on Tuesday night at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse.

The Gans High School basketball teams split their home games with McCurtain on Tuesday night at Bryant “Big Country” Reeves Fieldhouse.

The Grizzlies ended the night with a 60-54 victory, but the Lady Bulldogs took the opener 61-26 over the Lady Grizzlies.

Brunk

In the boys’ game, the Grizzlies (4-6) led 16-15 after a period, but a 22-10 second quarter upped the Gans advantage to 38-25 at halftime. The Bulldogs outscored the Grizzlies 29-22 in the second half, but their rally fell short.

For the game, Josh Brunk led Gans with a game-high 26 points, followed by Ashton Langston with 14 points, Mayson Clifton with eight points, Nakota White with six points, Gunner Vanscoy with four points and Clay Martinez with two points.

In the girls’ contest, the Lady Bulldogs had an 11-9 lead after a quarter, but they put away the game with a 21-5 second period to up their advantage to 38-14 at halftime. A 17-5 third quarter put McCurtain ahead 55-19 going into the final period.

In defeat, Brianna Burris led the Lady Grizzlies (3-8) with seven points, followed by Melania Paniagua with six points, Reina Gaona with five points, K’Cee Osburn with three points, Stevie Pratt and Amerys White with two points each and Aaliyah Taylor with a free throw.
