The Oral Roberts University women’s basketball team got past South Dakota 9178 on Thursday night in Vermillion, S.D., but a buzzer beater doomed the Golden Eagles in a 73-72 loss to St. Thomas on Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.

In Thursday night’s win, Taleyah Jones headlined an impressive road win by the Golden Eagles with a career-high 37 point outing. Jones shot a blistering 12-of-17 from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Jones scored 14 of her 37 points in the fourth quarter alone going 4-of-5 from the field and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. Jones is the first Golden Eagle to cross the 30-point mark this season.

Hannah Cooper followed with a 17 point performance. Cooper shot 4-of-9 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Cooper was instrumental down the stretch knocking down huge free throws in the fourth quarter. In addition to her scoring output, Cooper also dished out a team-high six assists.

Emily Robinson rounded out the doubledigit scorers for ORU as the freshman scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Robinson knocked down four 3-point baskets tonight and recorded five assists.

In Saturday’s loss, after freshman Robinson scored a putback lay-up to put the Golden Eagles up two with 3.3 seconds remaining, St. Thomas executed a side out of bounds play freeing Jade Hill open as she knocked down the gamewinning 3-pointer for the Tommies.

Cooper scored 20 points for the second time this season. Cooper shot an efficient 8-of-13 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. The fifth year senior made big shots late in the fourth quarter as the Golden Eagles battled the Tommies down to the last second.

Robinson, Jones, and Meghan Weinrich all reached double-digit scoring in the contest. Robinson scored 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Jones, fresh off a 37 point performance versus South Dakota, added 13 points as she battled foul trouble all afternoon. Weinrich rounded out the double-figure scorers with a 10 points performance, her third of the year.

The Golden Eagles will return to action as they will face North Dakota at 7 p.m. Thursday at the ORU Mabee Center.
