Roland sweeps home games from Poteau

The Roland High School basketball teams capped a perfect week Friday night by sweeping a pair of home NOAA Conference games from Poteau at the Ranger Dome.

The Roland High School basketball teams capped a perfect week Friday night by sweeping a pair of home NOAA Conference games from Poteau at the Ranger Dome.

The Lady Rangers made the Lady Pirates walk the plank in a 51-38 victory, which was followed by the Running Rangers taking care of the Pirates 74-37.

In the Roland girls’ victory over Poteau, the Lady Rangers (15-3 overall, 5-2 in NOAA Conference play) doubled the Lady Pirates 14-7 in the first quarter en route to a 27-16 halftime advantage and a 35-23 lead going into the final period.

For the game, Ryanne Nelke shared game-high honors with Poteau’s Emma Hackler with 16 points and Lilly Medicine Bird added 14 points to lead Roland, followed by Kynlei Earnhart with eight points, Halle Freeman with seven points, Haven Freeman with four points and Jazzlyn Teehee with two points.

In the Roland boys’ win over Poteau, the Running Rangers (17-1, 7-0) enjoyed a 32-27 halftime lead, but they put away the game with a 42-10 second half.

For the contest, DaVohn Hall led all scorers with a game-high 32 points to lead Roland, followed by Carson Wiggins with 14 points, Buck Triplett with six points, Kade Shook and Nate Criswell with four points each, Mason Kemp and D.J. Massey each with three points, Cason Perryman and Kayden Hartt with two points each and Paul Johnson with a free throw.
