Cowboys finish 5th at Watersound Invitational

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — The Oklahoma State men’s golf team closed play at the Watersound Invitational on Wednesday with a 4-under 284 to climb into the top five at Shark’s Tooth Golf Course.

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — The Oklahoma State men’s golf team closed play at the Watersound Invitational on Wednesday with a 4-under 284 to climb into the top five at Shark’s Tooth Golf Course.

The Cowboys finished with an 854 total at the par-72, 7,246-yard layout to claim sole possession of fifth place. OSU finished five shots behind Virginia for fourth place. Vanderbilt finished at 835 and nine shots clear of the field.

Florida State’s Gray Albright posted a 68 during his third round to finish at 10-under 206, giving him a one-shot victory.

Fifth year Rayhan Thomas moved into the top 20, tying for 18th place at 213 to lead OSU’s starting five. Thomas closed with a 71 to get to his 3-under total.

Senior Jonas Baumgartner carded his low round of the event, a 2-under 70, to tie for 22nd place at 215.

Freshman Preston Stout also finished at 215 after signing for a 76 on Wednesday.

Freshman Gaven Lane closed with a 74 to finish tied for 37th place at 218.

Freshman Johnnie Clark competed individually for the Cowboys, tying for 67th place at 228 after finishing with an 82.

Sophomore John Wild moved into a tie for 71st place at 230 after carding the squad’s round of the day, a 3-under 69. Wild went out in even-par 36 with a birdie at the third and his lone bogey of the day at the fifth. He would birdie three of the first five holes on his inward nine for a 3-under 33 total.

OSU will be back in action Sunday when it begins play at the Cabo Collegiate in Los Cabos, Mexico.
