Arrest warrant remains in effect for Muldrow man

By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

An arrest warrant remains in effect for a Muldrow man who was charged in November 2023 with a felony count of larceny of automobile in Sequoyah County District Court.

An arrest warrant remains in effect for a Muldrow man who was charged in November 2023 with a felony count of larceny of automobile in Sequoyah County District Court.

Authorities continue to search for 38-year-old Christopher D. Stary. Court records show Stary was also charged on Dec. 6, 2023, with one count of assault and battery on a police officer. He reportedly failed to appear for an arraignment in that case and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest the following day.

Muldrow Police officer Jerry Brooks reported on Nov. 25, 2023, he was dispatched to Randy Mitchell Auto after the owner’s Chevrolet pickup was taken from the front of the business.

Brooks was able to obtain video surveillance which reportedly showed the vehicle backing out of the business, going to the stop light, and then traveling south on Main Street. The male suspect was described as wearing tall boots, a jacket and faded jeans.

About 45 minutes later, a BOLO (be on the look out) was sent out to all agencies east of Oklahoma City with a description of the vehicle and what to watch for, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case. Less than an hour later, a deputy with the Okfuskee County Sheriff’s Office contacted Muldrow Police stating they’d found the vehicle parked on the shoulder of I-40 with a flat tire.

The following day, Brooks reviewed video footage from a local convenience store which reportedly showed the individual matching the description of the suspect entering the store and going straight to the restroom. He can then be seen exiting the store, circling the parking lot and going straight toward Randy Mitchell Auto where he walks to the vehicle and then leaves in it.

If found guilty of the charge, Stary could face imprisonment in the Department of Corrections for a term not exceeding five years or by a fine in an amount equal to three times the value of the property that was stolen, or by fine, imprisonment, and restitution.
