Late Hilldale rally dooms Muldrow in home opener

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

A late rally by the visiting Hilldale Hornets spoiled the home opener for the Muldrow Bulldogs as they were stung by the Hornets by the score of 10-3 Tuesday night.

With the game tied at 2-all after four innings, the Hornets (3-0 overall, 2-0 in district play) broke the tie with a single run in the fifth inning, three runs in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh inning for a 10-2 lead.

The Bulldogs (1-2, 0-2) scored their final run on a two-out, RBI single by Jacob Gregory in the seventh inning.

The Hornets broke a scoreless tie with a two-run third inning for a 2-0 lead.

The ’Dogs tied the game at 2-all on a Hilldale error in the third inning scoring Gabe Miller and Will Stratmann’s RBI triple in the fourth inning scoring Colton Pulliam who hit a one-out triple just prior to Stratmann’s at-bat.

In defeat, Pulliam was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and a run scored, Miller and Ben Cowan each doubled and scored once and Stratmann hit an RBI triple for Muldrow.

Jonah Claborn (1-1) took the loss, despite fanning six strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Drew Prewett went the next 1.1 innings, then Pulliam got the final out.

Muldrow’s Thursday home game with Warner was rained out. The Bulldogs will welcome Canadian to town for a 5 p.m. game this afternoon before their district match-ups with Wagoner at 5 p.m. Monday in Wagoner and 5 p.m. Tuesday at home.
