Golden Eagles beat South Dakota, fall to S.D. State in Summit League tourney
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota scored the first seven points of the game and forced Oral Roberts University men’s coach Russell Springmann into an early timeout, but ORU responded by outscoring the Coyotes by 22 the rest of the way in route to a 77-62 victory on Friday in the opening round the Summit League Tournament at Premier Center.

However, the season came to an end the following night as the Golden Eagles lost 79-63 to South Dakota State in the tournament quarterfinals.
In the win over South Dakota, Issac McBride was the game’s top scorer with 23 points and he also dished out a gamehigh seven assists. Kareem Thompson notched a doubledouble with 12 points and 10 boards and Jailen Bedford poured in 19 points of his own. Trey Phipps added five points and five rebounds and was plus-17 in just less than 19 minutes of playing time.
In the season-ending loss to South Dakota State, the Golden Eagles (12-19) jumped out to a 10 point lead in the early going, but a 24-0 South Dakota State run to close the first half helped the Jackrabbits knock off the Golden Eagles in the quarterfinals.
McBride scored a gamehigh 20 points and Thompson grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to go along with four assists.
