Sallisaw teams runners-up to Poteau at Pirate Track Classic

POTEAU — The Sallisaw High School track teams each finished second to host Poteau in Tuesday’s Pirate Track Classic, which took place at Costner Stadium after it was postponed Friday due to the threat of storms.

The Lady Diamonds scored 126 points, finishing behind host Poteau (187 points).

The lone Lady Diamond to win a title was Sydney Weedon as she won the 100-meter hurdles (18.46 seconds) while being the runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles (53.89).

Weedon’s runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles was one of six secondplace finishes on the day for the Lady Diamonds.

Individually, Kayli Macon was second in the 200-meter dash (27.25 seconds), and Molly Carver placed second in the 1,600-meter run (6:04.57).

Three of the Lady Diamonds’ four relays placed second. Macon, Abby Kate Qualls, Emma Martin and Hannah Palmer were second in the 800-meter relay (1:54.39), Macon, Qualls, Kylie Holt and Palmer were runners-up in the 1,600-meter relay (4:34.24) and Nicci Davis, Holt, Carver and Trinity Cox were second in the 3,200-meter relay (11:47.85).

The foursome of Macon, Qualls, Martin and Jazmyne Wright were third in the 400-meter relay (54.24 seconds). Wright was third in the 200-meter dash (28.89 seconds).

In the 400-meter run, Holt was third (1:11.62), Michelle Laudan was sixth (1:13.74) and Casey Brackett was eighth (1:16.48).

Martin was fifth in the 100-meter dash (13.96 seconds), Ellie Bryars was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (22.02), Davis was sixth (15:52.96) and Haley Birdtail eighth (17:10.02) in the 3,200-meter run and Ava Armstrong was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (58.21).

Cox was seventh in the 1,600-meter run (6:46.99), while Birdtail was 12th in the 800-meter run (3:14.05).

The Black Diamonds recorded 137 points, coming in second to Poteau’s 163 points.

Just like the Lady Diamonds, the Black Diamonds won one event as the 3,200-meter relay team of Tae Muskrat-Flynn, Cash Mayfield, Matthew Ruark and Ish Patel took the gold with a winning time of 9:11.11.

The Sallisaw boys finished second in four more events. Individually, Jodai Sama Salinas was runner-up in the 3,200-meter run (11:49.11), while Brodie Cameron was second in the 400-meter dash (55.84 seconds). Two Black Diamond relay teams also came in second as Aaron File, Kenyan Hill, Cameron and Cooper Cox were runnersup in the 800-meter relay (1:35.43), while Ruark, Cameron, Mayfield and Muskrat-Flynn got the silver medal in the 1,600-meter relay (3:55.8).

The Black Diamonds saw four individuals place in the top 10 in the 110-meter hurdles as Moreno Diego was third (18.87 seconds), Tyler File was fifth (19.36), Cannon Martindale was sixth (19.71) and Jackson Harris was seventh (21.86).

Jonas Reid was third (12:01.28) and Dawson Glover eighth (13:26.39) in the 3,200-meter run, while Aaron File was third (11.39 seconds), Cox was sixth (11.62) and Hill was 10th (11.99) in the 100-meter dash.

Aaron File was third (23.61 seconds), Cox fifth (23.78) and Hill seventh (24.45) in the 200-meter dash, while the Black Diamonds’ 400-meter relay team of Ruark, Cox, Hill and Aaron File was third (45.59).

In the 300-meter hurdles, Brecken Hennessee was fourth (48.38 seconds), Tyler File sixth (48.53) and Ruark ninth (51.8), while Austin File was fourth (58.0) and Ethan Wilhite 14th (1:06.98) in the 400-meter dash.

Salinas was fifth (2:25.6) and Mayfield sixth (2:28.48) in the 800-meter run, while Parker Frederick was seventh (6:02.68), Alex Gregory 11th (6:12.23) and Sean Laudan 13th (6:52.87) in the 1,600-meter run.

Both the Gore and Webbers Falls track teams also competed in Tuesday’s meet. Both Gore teams were fifth, while both Webbers Falls teams were sixth. The Pirates scored 51 points, with the Warriors right behind them with 29 points on the boys’ side, while the Lady Pirates had 26 points and the Lady Warriors five points.

Gore saw two individuals win three titles among them as Hallie Kinion won the girls’ 800- (2:29.98) and 1,600-meter runs (6:02.48), while Devon Mannon took gold in the 300-meter hurdles (45.92 seconds).

As for other Lady Pirates, Kinion was runner-up in the 3,200-meter run (13:04.24), while Rayleigh Moore was fourth (1:12.3) and Amelia White fifth (1:13.54) in the 400-meter dash. White was fifth (2:47.94) and Moore sixth (2:49.06) in the 800-meter run, Emily Daily was fifth (30.1 seconds) and Ricki Huckbay eighth (33.86) in the 200-meter dash and Daily was seventh (14.19) and Huckbay 14th (16.18) in the 100-meter dash.

As for the Pirates, Journey Shells was third in the 300-meter hurdles (47.64 seconds) and 12th in the 200-meter dash (26.29), Mannon was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.21), Burr Jaynes was seventh (3:28.46) and Landyn Johnson was 15th (2:50.16) in the 800-meter run, Jaynes was sixth in the 1,600-meter run (5:59.56), Jaynes was 14th in the 200-meter dash (27.31) and Johnson was 16th in the 400-meter dash (1:15.66).

As for the Lady Warriors, Webbers Falls had two relay teams place third. Abby Pense, Bridgette Baer, Teralynn Colston and Shannon Pense were third in the 3,200-meter relay (13:26.64), while Abby Pense, Audri Spears, Colston and Baer finished third in the 1,600-meter relay (5:08.75).

As for other Lady Warriors, Abby Pense was seventh (1:00.44), Colston eighth (1:01.44), Baer 10th (1:04.81) and Spears 12th (1:11.24) in the 300-meter hurdles, Shannon Pense was seventh (23.59 seconds) and Baer ninth (25.27) in the 100-meter hurdles, Shannon Pense was 10th (3:14.04), Abbie Patterson 13th (3:25.1) and Hailey Shanks 14th (3:48.65) in the 800-meter run, Shanks was 11th (8:31.27) and Spears 12th (9:08.89) in the 1,600-meter run and Patterson was 13th in the 400-meter dash (1:24.96).

The highest placer for the Warriors was Stryker Chappell who was sixth in the 200-meter dash (24.42 seconds) and seventh in the 400-meter dash (1:01.79). Eli Heflin was 10th (3:37.19) and Luke Pierce 11th (2:38.06) in the 800-meter run, Pierce was 11th (1:03.45) and Heflin was 13th (1:06.8) in the 400-meter dash and Dylan Young was 13th in both the 100- (13.07) and 200-meter dashes (27.17).

After taking Spring Break off, the local track teams will return to action the following week. Sallisaw, along with Muldrow and Roland, will run at the Clark Bass Invitational on March 28 at McAlester’s Hook-Eales Stadium, while on the same day the Gore, Central, Vian and Webbers Falls teams will participate at the Wilburton Invitational.
