Vian opens spring season with road win over Gore

The Vian Lady Wolverines began their 2024 slow-pitch softball season in fine fashion with an 11-1 win over county rival Gore on Tuesday afternoon in Gore.

The Vian Lady Wolverines began their 2024 slow-pitch softball season in fine fashion with an 11-1 win over county rival Gore on Tuesday afternoon in Gore.

The Lady Wolverines (1-0) scored twice in the first inning and once in the third inning for a 3-0 lead. After the Lady Pirates (4-1), who lost for the first time this season, scored once in the fourth inning on Paige Curran’s RBI double to cut the deficit to 3-1 after four innings, Vian put the game into run-rule status with a five-run fifth inning and a threerun sixth inning.

For the game, Eastern Oklahoma State College signee Maisie Wells was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three runs batted in and three runs scored, Akeelah Truett was 2-for-3 with two homers and five RBIs, LaKaila Drew was 2-for-4 with a doubled two RBIs, Kala Gibbins doubled and scored twice and Rayleigh Terrill doubled and scored once for Vian.

In defeat, Emily Daily was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Paige Curran hit an RBI double and Cheyenne Davidson and Keira Rowe each singled for Gore.

ROLAND 5, PORUM 3

SPIRO 4, ROLAND 1

Tuesday at Spiro, the Lady Rangers (11) opened their season by splitting their games in Tuesday’s road three-way.

In the win over Porum, the Lady Rangers scored three runs in the fourth inning to go from a 3-2 deficit to a 5-3 lead.

For the game, Addyson Clark was 2-for-2 with a triple, a run batted in and a run scored for Roland. Kiah Petit (1-1) got the win.

In the loss to Spiro, the Lady Bulldogs, who trailed 1-0 in the first inning, scored twice in each of the first two innings to get the come-from-behind win.

In defeat, Aubriana Gragg was 2-for-2, while Jaydance Bean was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI for Roland. Petit took the loss.

GORE JV 10, GANS 5

Monday at Gore, after the Lady Grizzlies (0-2) scored three runs in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead, the Gore junior varsity scored once in the third inning to tie the game at 3-all, then took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning and a fourrun sixth inning to take a 10-3 lead into the seventh inning. For the game, Emily Daily was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two runs batted in, Paige Curran was 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs and Kendra Hu c k b a y tripled with an RBI and a run scored for the Gore JV. Huckbay got the win.

In defeat, Brianna Burris was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBIs, Raina Gaona doubled and scored once, Stevie Pratt doubled with an RBI and a run scored and K’Cee Osburn tripled with two RBIs and a run scored for Gans. Layla Manuel (0-1) took the loss.

OKAY 22, GANS 18

Tuesday in Okay, after the Lady Grizzlies scored nine runs in the first inning for a 9-0 lead, the Lady Mustangs scored twice in the first inning and six runs in the second inning to cut the deficit to 9-8. After Gans upped its advantage to 11-8 with two runs in the third inning, Okay scored five runs in the third inning and twice in the fourth inning to take a 1511 lead after four innings. Gans regained the lead with a five-run fifth inning to take a 16-15 lead, but the Lady Mustangs rallied to take the lead for good with a seven-run fifth inning to take a 22-16 lead after six innings.

In defeat, Gabbie Price was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored, Raina Gaona was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI and K’Cee Osburn was 3-for-4 with a double and four runs scored to lead Gans.

Brianna Burris (0-1) took the loss in relief. Layla Manuel started and went the first two innings, then Aaliyah Taylor pitched the third inning.

DEWAR 19, WEBBERS FALLS 0

OKMULGEE 16, WEBBERS FALLS 4

Tuesday in Okmulgee, the Lady Warriors (0-6) dropped both games of Tuesday’s road three-way.

Webbers Falls did not record any base hits against Dewar in a game that reached run-rule status by the third inning.

There was no further information on the Webbers Falls-Okmulgee game by press time.
