Mannon charged with brutal murder of mother

By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

Former Sequoyah County resident Tracy A. Mannon, 51, of Wilburton, has been charged with firstdegree murder in the brutal stabbing death of her mother, Linda Barnes.

Former Sequoyah County resident Tracy A. Mannon, 51, of Wilburton, has been charged with first-degree murder in the brutal stabbing death of her mother, Linda Barnes.

Mannon, who is currently in tribal custody, is accused of committing the heinous crime on February 26.

According to the federal probable cause affidavit, Wilburton Police received a 911 call from a neighbor who reported hearing screams emanating from Mannon’s residence on West Caddo Ave. Responding officers discovered Barnes’ lifeless body with stab and cut wounds to her chest, stomach, face and arms.

Officers reportedly found Mannon at the kitchen sink, washing dishes where a large knife, tainted with blood and tissue, was discovered. Mannon then reportedly admitted to using two knives in the brutal attack.

Mannon’s chilling plan to dismember her mother’s body was thwarted as she confessed to the officers that the knife she intended to use was too dull. The investigation further uncovered Mannon’s attempt to clean up the crime scene, with blood still under her fingernails despite her claim of being in the shower when authorities arrived.

The FBI is now involved in the case and Mannon will remain in tribal custody until federal charges are officially filed.

Choctaw Nation District Court has charged Mannon with first-degree murder and she is currently held in the Latimer County Jail on a $1 million bond. Additionally, a federal complaint for seconddegree murder has been filed in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, with an arraignment yet to be scheduled as of press time.

Witnesses reported hearing Barnes instructing Mannon not to harm her, followed by Mannon discarding a robe in the backyard and returning with a large blue container.

During an interview with investigators, Mannon admitted to pushing her mother out the back door, stabbing her multiple times until she succumbed to her injuries.
