Webbers Falls powerlifter wins state title

EL RENO — Webbers Falls powerlifter Gunner Carey won the Class B state title at 123 pounds at Saturday’s state meet.

As a team, the Warriors were Class B state runners-up.

Two other Warriors placed in Saturday’s Class B State Meet as Maddux Shelby was state runnerup at 181 and Zane Nolan was fourth at 168. Brutus Robinson, who got an at-large bid to state at 123 pounds, did not place.

In the Class 4A State Meet on Friday, Sallisaw 157-pounder Ty Bennett finished 10th, one spot higher than at the regional meet a week prior in which he placed 11th.

Both Muldrow Bulldogs 220-pound high school lifters placed as Devon Holland was 16th (1,200 pounds lifted) and Alejandro Santacruz was 21st (1,160).

In the Class 4A Junior High State Meet on Thursday, several locals placed.

Three Sallisaw Black Diamonds placed in the top five as 132-pounder John Throne (840 pounds lifted) and heavyweight Dimitri Sebastian (1,105) were third, while Cash Girdner was fifth (700) at 220 pounds.

As for other Black Diamonds, Cade Tate was sixth at 198 pounds (1,020 pounds lifted), Trevor Crawford was eighth at 168 (890), William Arnold was ninth at 220 (670), Israel Moss was 16th at 220 (605) and Garrett Deel was 16th at heavyweight (1,010). Harley Schuh, Salilsaw’s 123-pounder, participated but did not place.

Two Muldrow JH lifters also placed in the Class 4A JH State Meet as David Keenan was fourth at 105 pounds after lifting a total of 535 pounds, while Braxton Thrailkill also was fourth at 220 pounds after lifting a total of 1,180 pounds. Gage Garvin (123 pounder) and Gabe Smalley (145-pounder) also competed but did not place.

Gans Grizzlies powerlifter Anthony Vasquez placed 13th in the 181-pound in the Class B State Meet on Saturday.

Roland 132-pound junior-high powerlifter Devon White competed in Thursday’s Class 4A Junior High State Meet, but he did not place.

The Gore Pirates junior high powerlifting team had 10 members compete at Thursday’s Class A State Meet, with four placing.

Treydan Daugherty and Cole Brooksher were state runners-up, while Jaydan Gates and Cole Ralston were third.

Devon Mannon, T.J. Abercrombie, Luke Wisdom, Jaxon Denton. Seth Current and Julian Madrid also participated for the Pirates but did not place.
