Healey Tonsing Ikerd, a distinguished alumna of Central Public Schools in Sallisaw, proudly announces the release of her latest literary creation, ‘The Red Ball: A Story of Friendship and Forgiveness.’

Drawing inspiration from her mother’s captivating tales of life in East Germany, Ikerd weaves a poignant narrative centered around the journey of young Renate, who embarks on a transformative odyssey guided by the precious gift of a red ball.

Graduating in 1985 before embarking on a path that led her to serve in the U.S. Army, Ikerd has since become a licensed counselor in Fayetteville, Ark. Leveraging her expertise, she endeavors to impart invaluable lessons of forgiveness and self-discovery through her work.

‘Books have a unique way of teaching us important lessons,’ remarks Ikerd. ‘I hope ‘The Red Ball’ will inspire children to choose love and forgiveness in their own lives.’

Complementing the narrative, Ikerd has crafted a companion activity book designed to reinforce the book’s key themes. Reflecting on her own journey, she emphasizes the importance of understanding one’s self-worth and the profound impact of embracing one’s identity.

“I wish I could have understood my self-worth in God’s eyes when I was growing up. I felt extremely lost and often down on myself,” she says. “I understand now that God has created me with great value and I am the one who needs to make decisions to live that out. I hope kids and parents can resonate with that message in the book.”

A special book signing event is slated to take place at Chapters Bookstore in Van Buren, Ark. on Saturday, March 23, from 12 to 2 p.m. Attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to engage with the author and secure autographed copies of her uplifting tale.

Join Ikerd as she shares the heartwarming story of ‘The Red Ball,’ an enchanting narrative destined to captivate young hearts and inspire meaningful reflection on the power of friendship and forgiveness.
