POTEAU — The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team suffered a pair of home losses against the Connors State College Cowgirls by scores of 12-8 and 8-2.
In the opener, the Lady Vikings (5-21) had a 7-5 lead after five innings thanks to a five-run fifth inning highlighted by Charlie Taylor’s grand-slam home run, but the Cowgirls scored six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good at 12-5.
In defeat, Reagan Smith was 2-for-4 with a run scored, DeLaney Willoughby was 2-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored, Isa Ray tripled with runs scored and an RBI and Taylor hit a grand-slam homer for CASC.
Kattie Bailey suffered the loss in relief, going the final two-thirds of an inning. Ray started and went the first 6.1 innings with three strikeouts.
In the nightcap, a two-run first inning and a four-run fourth inning put the Cowgirls ahead 6-0 after four innings.
Taylor hit her second homer of the day, a solo shot in the fifth inning to cut the CASC deficit to 6-1, but that was as close as the Lady Vikings got.
In defeat, Taylor hit a solo homer, Tessa York, Raylee Allison, Brooklyn Adams and Braedy Wardrope all singled, Smith singled and scored once and Willoughby had an RBI for CASC.
Chloe Madbull suffered the loss, going the first six innings with three strikeouts. Allee Erne went the final inning with two Ks.
The Lady Vikings will return to action with a road doubleheader against Arkansas-Rich Mountain at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mena, Ark.
