Sooners sweep TCU, but lose to Dallas Baptist

By OU ATHLETICS COMMUNICATIONS

The Oklahoma Sooners baseball team swept a three-game series from No. 12 Texas Christian University over the weekend in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Oklahoma Sooners baseball team swept a three-game series from No. 12 Texas Christian University over the weekend in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Sooners won 7-3 on Friday, 7-5 on Saturday and 9-4 on Sunday.

In the opening win on Friday, the ranked win marked coach Skip Johnson’s 200th career victory at OU (6-0 in Big 12 play) and snapped TCU’s 17-game home win streak.

Tyson Witherspoon (2-1) retired six of his last seven batters to close the game. Witherspoon finished with a line of five innings pitched, no runs on three hits and two walks and eight strikeouts.

Davis went four innings, surrendering three runs on three hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

At the plate, Bryce Madron led OU with a 3-for-4 showing while five Sooners brought in runs on the night, paced by Michael Snyder’s and Carter Frederick’s two RBIs apiece.

In Saturday’s victory, reliever Carter Campbell was exceptional out of the bullpen, going three innings and allowing a run on two hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Fellow reliever Malachi Witherspoon (1-1) earned the win in the eighth and a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out one while scattering four hits and a pair of runs with no walks.

Madron led OU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Four other Sooners brought in runs and seven registered a hit.

In Sunday’s win, starting LHP James Hitt (2-1) earned the win, going 5.2 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with a walk. Relievers Dylan Crooks and Carson Atwood did their job, with Atwood stranding a runner at third in the seventh to go with three strikeouts and a pair of walks, while scattering two hits.

At the plate, Snyder paced OU with a 2-for-5 showing with three RBIs. Four other Sooners recorded RBIs and nine recorded a hit. Madron closed his weekend tear by going 6-for-11 in the series with a homer and four RBIs.

On Tuesday night, the Sooners lost 6-0 to Dallas Baptist University at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

After a 4-0 road swing and playing six games in the last eight days, the Sooners (13-7) were shut out for the first time since 2022 on Tuesday. OU threw nine pitchers on the night, with none going more than 1.2 innings and only two giving up more than one hit. DBU used a three-run ninth inning to put the contest away.

The Sooners would record a pair of hits in the bottom half of the ninth, but a double play and pop-up ended any threat of a comeback.

Jett Lodes (0-1) took the loss, surrendering a run on a hit with three strikeouts, while six other Sooner pitchers recorded a strikeout, highlighted by a pair of Ks from junior RHP Ryan Lambert.

At the plate, Jason Walk led OU with his first multi-hit game of the freshman’s young career, going 2-for-3. Three other Sooners registered hits.

The Sooners will continue an eightgame homestand by welcoming West Virginia this weekend. First pitches are set for 7 tonight, 4 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday, respectively.
