Sallisaw sweeps Sequoyah-Claremore in prelude to Tiger/Zebra Classic

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

CLAREMORE — The Sallisaw Black Diamonds baseball team got a road sweep Tuesday over the host Sequoyah-Claremore Eagles by scores of 3-0 and 10-9.

In the opener, the pitching duo of Brock Streun and Dagan Grizzle combined on a two-hitter. Streun (2-1) got the win, going the first six innings with 11 strikeouts. Grizzle got his fourth save of the season, pitching a spotless seventh inning.

The Black Diamonds (7-4 overall, 4-0 in district play) scored single runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings.

For the game, Kase Adams singled with two runs batted in, Creed Nelson singled and scored once, Streun singled and scored once and Braxton Lamb scored once for Sallisaw.

In the nightcap in which Sallisaw was the home team, the Black Diamonds broke a 3-all tie with a five-run fourth inning which was highlighted by back-to-back home runs by Lamb, a two-run shot, and Streun, a solo shot. When the rally was finally put to an end, the Black Diamonds led 8-3 after four innings.

After the Eagles cut the deficit to 8-6 in the sixth inning, the Black Diamonds got some added insurance with two runs in their half of the frame as Parker Pratt’s RBI double and Luke Pack’s RBI single put Sallisaw ahead 10-6 after six innings.

The Eagles made things interesting with a threerun seventh inning, but relief pitcher Brodie Cameron got the last batter to fly out to Broque Oft in left field to end the rally and the game.

For the game, Oft was 3-for-5 with his first homer of the season, a triple, three runs batted in and three runs scored, Pack was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, Nelson was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Streun hit his second homer of the season, Pratt hit an RBI double and scored once and Lamb was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his first round-tripper of the season.

Nelson (3-1) got the win, going the first five innings with five Ks. Coleman Wasson got the first two outs of the sixth inning, then Cameron got his first save of the season as he got the final four outs of the game, two of which came by strikeout.

The Black Diamonds began play in the Tiger/Zebra Classic, which is taking place in both Pryor and Claremore, on Thursday with a game against Skiatook in Pryor. They met Glenpool at 10 a.m. today and hosted Pryor at noon in Pryor. The Black Diamonds end the three-day event with a 10 a.m. game Saturday against Lincoln Christian in Claremore. Sallisaw will then return to district play with back-to-back games against Jay — 5 p.m. Monday in Jay and 5 p.m. Tuesday at home.
