The Sallisaw Black Diamonds baseball team lost 19-13 in eight innings to Oklahoma Christian School in the consolation finals of the Hillsdale-Fort Gibson Shootout on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Diamonds opened play Thursday losing 3-2 to Rattan in the championship quarterfinals, but they bounced back with an 8-3 victory over co-host Hilldale in Friday afternoon’s consolation semifinals.

In Thursday’s loss to Rattan, the Black Diamonds (13-7) scored single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings for a 2-0 lead, but the Rams scored once in the fifth inning and twice in the seventh inning in walk-off fashion to get the come-from-behind win.

In defeat, Easton Wolfe was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Braxton Lamb doubled for Sallisaw.

Kase Adams (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season in relief as he went the final 2.1 innings with a strikeout but allowed the game-tying run and game- winning run to score in the seventh inning. Gracin Marshall got the start and went the first 4.1 innings with a strikeout. In the win over Hilldale, after falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Black Diamonds took the lead for good with a two-run second inning for a 2-1 lead after two innings. While the Hornets got to within a run on two occasions, with the last time being at 4-3 after five innings, Sallisaw scored a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to seal the deal.

For the game, Lamb was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs batted in and a run scored, while Brock Streun was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored for Sallisaw.

Coleman Wasson (2-0) got the win, going the first four innings with three strikeouts. Luke Pack went the next 1.1 innings with two Ks, while Brodie Cameron finished things off as he fanned three batters in 1.2 innings.

In the loss to OCS, the Saints scored six runs in the eighth inning after the Black Diamonds tied the game at 13-all with a four-run seventh inning — which was highlighted by a two-run home run by Johnny Velasquez, his first varsity homer.

In defeat, Wolfe doubled with two RBIs and a run scored, and Velasquez hit a two-run homer and scored twice for Sallisaw.

Donald Smith (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season in relief, going the final 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. Lamb got the start and went the first three innings with four Ks. Brodi Nickell went the next 1.2 innings with two strikeouts, while Levi Scavo went the next 2.2 innings with three Ks.
