During an April 8 meeting of the Sallisaw Board of Education, the board members convened to address various matters concerning the district’s administration, including the reorganization of board leadership and the recognition of exceptional educators.

The board unanimously approved the reorganization of the Sallisaw Board of Education as follows: Justin McGrew-president, Bobby Qualls-vice president, Frank Sullivan III-clerk, Tami Martin-deputy clerk, and Amanda Hatcher-member.

Sallisaw Building Site Teachers of the Year are (from left) Dolly Dunlap, Liberty; Emily Quickel, Eastside; Charli Lamb, Middle School; and Trent Rhoads, High School.

Notably, Charli Lamb was honored as the District Teacher of the Year, with several other outstanding educators recognized as Building Site Teachers of the Year for their respective schools. Those teachers included: Dolly Dunlap, Liberty; Emily Quickel, Eastside; Charli Lamb, middle school; and Trent Rhoads, high school.

Additionally, the board addressed several administrative tasks, including approving meeting minutes, financial reports and resignations. Crystal Callahan, an Eastside SPED teacher and Tyler Mathis, technology assistant, submitted their resignations, which were accepted by the board.

Furthermore, the board approved various motions regarding district operations, including the District Transfer Capacity for the fourth quarter and temporary appropriations for the upcoming 2024-25 school year. They also greenlit facility use requests and endorsed Indian Capital Technology Center’s provision of mathematics and science courses for graduation credit. Sallisaw High School’s Prom is scheduled to take place from 8 to 11 p.m. on April 13, and the Senior Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 9.

In an executive session, which began at 6:25 p.m., the board reportedly discussed undisclosed matters. However, no minutes or votes were recorded during this session, according to meeting minutes.

Upon reconvening, the board swiftly approved the employment of Cobie Graham as a Liberty Elementary first grade teacher and Jessica Farrell as an Eastside Elementary SPED teacher for the 2024-25 school year, with the board adjourning at 6:44 p.m.

This news story is based on the unofficial minutes from the board meeting and could be in error if the minutes are changed prior to adoption.
