Muldrow suffers back-to-back losses; Roland bows twice to end seasons

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

STILWELL — It was a major heartbreak for the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs in Thursday’s Class 5A District Tournament.

STILWELL — It was a major heartbreak for the Muldrow Lady Bulldogs in Thursday’s Class 5A District Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs were just a win away from a district title and a trip to this week’s Class 5A Regional Tournament, but that all-important win did not happen as back-to-back losses to host Stilwell by scores of 6-0 and 15-5 in the championship round ended the Lady Bulldogs’ season and sent the Lady Indians to the regional tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs started the day 2-0 with a 15-2 rout of Eufaula and a 6-2 win over Stilwell in the winner’s-bracket final.

Unfortunately, it was a quicker end to the season for the Roland Lady Rangers, who lost both of their games to see their playoff run end as they fell 14-2 to Stilwell and 16-0 to Eufaula.

In the first district title game, the Lady Bulldogs (13-11) had nine hits, but no runs to show for their efforts as Stilwell scored five runs in the first inning and once in the second inning for a 6-0 lead.

In defeat, Cailey Grinstead was 2-for-3 for Muldrow. Grinstead (13-11) took the loss.

In the winner-take-all title game, the Lady Indians broke a scoreless tie with a nine-run third inning for a 9-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit to 9-5 after three innings but got no closer as the Lady Indians scored five runs in the fourth inning and once in the fifth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Jaydin Dean was 2-for-3 with a run batted in, Amarie Duran was 2-for-2 and Grinstead doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Muldrow. Grinstead took the loss.

In Muldrow’s rout of Eufaula, the Lady Bulldogs put away the game early with a six-run first inning, a three-run second inning and two-run third inning for an 11-0 lead. A four-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Kaydence Young was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, Grinstead was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Dean was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Ashley Price was 2-for-4 with a two triples, three RBIs and a run scored, Danica Tune was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, Ryah Keenan was 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored and Heidi McGuire was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Muldrow. Grinstead got the win.

In Muldrow’s win over Stilwell, the Lady Bulldogs rallied from a 2-0 deficit after four innings with a two-run fifth inning, a single run in the sixth inning and a three-run seventh inning.

For the game, McGuire was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Price was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Amaya Duran was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, Grinstead was 2-for-4, Keenan was 2-for-3 and Young doubled with an RBI for Muldrow. Grinstead got the win.

In Roland’s loss to Stilwell, the Lady Indians jumped out early and often, scoring once in the first inning, seven runs in the second inning and twice in the third inning for a 10-0 lead after three innings. A four-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Kynlei Earnhart was 2-for-2, Kyleigh Knapp was 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Addyson Clark tripled and scored once for the Lady Rangers (5-16). Kiah Pettit took the loss.

In Roland’s season-ending loss to Eufaula, the Lady Ironheads got a two-hitter tossed by pitcher Makayla Harjo, with the only blemishes against her being a double apiece by Pettit and Jaydance Bean. Pettit took the loss.
