Think on these things
Many things from the past echo faintly within us – voices, sounds, thoughts. Only a few ring like a bell from many long ago seasons. Persistent memories call us back to deal with details, some of them best forgotten.

Why does it happen? Perhaps so that we may clarify how we feel, to help be more objective about the present moment. Or maybe even to force us to see the pattern of our lives so that we can throw out events that have only been obstacles. Sometimes we remember just so we can be grateful.
Like the well-fed dog that turns primitive at the site of a bone, we can pick up our own instincts and react before we think. If we know what is happening we can handle it with good humor and have less reason to make everyone in the present time pay dealy for what happened so long ago.
