Cowgirls’ WCWS run comes to halt after losses to Florida, Stanford

The Cowgirls fell 1-0 to Florida in Thursday night’s opening-round game, then lost 8-0 Friday night to Stanford to be eliminated.
In the loss to Florida, the game lasted less than two hours due to elite pitching on both sides, OSU All-American Lexi Kilfoyl (26-5) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Katie Kistler’s lead-off home run provided the game’s only run. Kilfoyl allowed only two hits in taking the hard-luck defeat.
Keagan Rothrock (31-7) yielded only two OSU singles and tossed a complete game to lift the Gators.
Offensively, OSU was led by Lexi McDonald (1-for-2) and Caroline Wang (1–for-3). McDonald hit a deep fly ball in the fifth inning that was ticketed for extra bases, but Gator center fielder Kendra Falby made a leaping grab crashing into the fence to rob the opportunity.
In the season-ending loss, Stanford’s Ava Gall opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning.
Stanford tallied seven runs over the next five innings on a two-run single from Jade Berry, a solo home run for Kaitlyn Lim, RBI singles from Gall and Emily Jones, a walked-in run and a sacrifice fly from Jones.
Offensively, OSU was led by McDonald (1-for-1 with a double), Claire Timm (1for-3) and Karli Godwin (1-for-3).
Stanford’s NiJaree Canady (23-6), USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, tossed a complete game shutout to propel the Cardinal.
Kilfoyl hurled 3.2 innings, giving up four runs in the loss for the Cowgirls, who finish at the season at 49-12.
