Josh Bolin, Sallisaw’s head coach for softball who is alleged to have engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a minor under the age of 18, has resigned his position at Sallisaw Public Schools.
The SPS Board of Education accepted his resignation at Monday night’s monthly meeting.
Bolin’s resignation comes a month after he was promoted from assistant to head coach for the Lady Diamonds, and a month before the start of the fall fast-pitch softball season.
An emergency protective order was filed on June 28 in Sequoyah County District Court, and Judge Gary Huggins on July 2 set a court hearing for July 16. However, court records show that the case was recently removed from the district court.
When the allegation against Bolin came to light, Sallisaw Superintendent Steve Barrett released a statement acknowledging that the school was aware of the allegations, and that Bolin was placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
“The district takes these allegations very seriously and immediately notified the appropriate authorities,” Barrett said last week. “The district took swift action to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, which is our utmost priority.
“We are deeply concerned about these allegations and are committed to a comprehensive and transparent investigation. The safety and trust of our students and their families are of paramount importance to us. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement and other relevant authorities to address this situation.
“Sallisaw Public School District will not tolerate any behavior that compromises the safety and well-being of our students. We are dedicated to maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional learning environment. The district adheres to strict policies and protocols to prevent and address any form of inappropriate conduct,” Barrett said.
Sallisaw was Bolin’s first head coaching job, having succeeded Hillary Gehrke, who stepped down in May. Bolin served as an assistant for the previous four years.
The Lady Diamonds began summer workouts following Bolin’s promotion, and the team’s first scrimmage is scheduled for July 25 at Pocola. Another scrimmage is planned for the following week, followed by Sallisaw playing in the Panama Scrimmage Festival. The last scrimmage of the preseason is scheduled for Aug. 6 against Catoosa.
The SPS Board of Education on Monday also hired Wes Green as head coach for the fast-pitch softball team. Green was previously head coach at Central Public Schools for softball and baseball.
