Junior Jackson Nicklaus went in the 17th round to the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 520th overall pick and fellow junior Carter Frederick was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 20th round with pick No. 587.
OU’s eight selections in this year’s draft is tied for third most among colleges, trailing only Mississippi State (11) and Louisiana State University (9). The eight picks marks the 11th time in program history eight or more Sooners have been selected in one draft. All-time, 307 Sooners have been drafted.
A three-year starter in the infield, Nicklaus is OU’s 20th selection to the Dodgers in program history and first since 2019. In just three seasons, the Overland Park, Kan., product ranked 15th in program history with 27 home runs and sixth in walks drawn (124). An All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2024, Nicklaus started 55 of the 57 games he played, hitting 10 home runs, nine doubles and three triples with 37 runs batted in.
Frederick is OU’s just seventh selection to the Royals in school history. In his first season as a Sooner in 2024, Frederick played in 13 games and made eight starts before suffering a season-ending hand injury. In his 13 games, he hit two home runs, one double and batted in nine runs, batting .343 with a .543 slugging percentage.
With its two selections on Tuesday, OU has 307 MLB Draft selections all-time with 40 under coach Skip Johnson, including 27 pitchers under Johnson.
