So much is taken for granted until the inevitable change makes us sit up and take notice. If the little daily, homely pursuits seem tedious and unfulfilling, it is only because we do not realize how the small and colorful pieces fit in to make a whole harmonious quilt of life.

It is so easy to complain and point to all those who do nothing to help our cause not recognizin or caring that they have a cause of their own to keep their attention. Cooperation is needed but we also need to recognize it as a two-way street.
When the day gets hectic, think of common everyday things that Whittier wrote about, dew and sunshine, raindrops and silence, and sweet peace of mind. Focusing on them when all else has grown tiresome and confusing can give back a commonsense view of what daily life really is, a terribly imporant combination of little things.
