Roland opens season with road district sweep over Heavener

HEAVENER — The Albis Ramos era as coach of the Roland Lady Rangers got off to a successful beginning as the Lady Rangers swept a pair of road district games from the host Heavener Lady Wolves by scores of 12-3 and 12-2 on Tuesday evening.

In the opener, after taking a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, the Lady Rangers (2-0 overall, 2-0 in district play) put away the game with a six-run second inning for a 7-0 lead.

For the game, Ariana Acevedo was 4-for-4 with two doubles and four runs scored, Addyson Clark was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs batted in, Jordyn Bean was 2-for-5 with three three RBIs and a run scored, Jaydance Bean was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Kyleigh Knapp was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Paisley Davis was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Lilly Cole doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Roland.

Knapp (1-0) got the win in relief, going the final four innings with four strikeouts. McKinna Cooper got the start and went the first two innings with three Ks.

In the nightcap in which Roland was home, the Lady Rangers basically copied what they did in the opener — put away the game early. Roland scored five runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning for an 8-0 lead. A four-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Clark was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, five RBIs and three runs scored, Jaydance Bean was 3-for-3 with with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Acevedo was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored, Jordyn Bean was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, Davis was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Cole doubled with an RBI for Roland.

Cooper (1-0) got the win, going all four innings and throwing a one-hitter.

POTEAU 9, SALLISAW 1

Tuesday in Poteau, the Lady Pirates (1-0 overall, 1-0 in District 4A-6 play) spoiled the regular-season debut of new Sallisaw coach Wes Green.

After t h e Lady Diamonds (0-1, 0-1) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Natalie Gonzalez’s RBI single, the Lady Pirates responded with a four-run first inning, a single run in the second inning and a three-run third inning for an 8-1 lead after three innings.

In defeat, Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with an RBI single, while Channing Wilson singled for Sallisaw.

Delaney Compton (0-1) suffered the loss, despite fanning three batters in six innings.

WARNER 8, CENTRAL 1

Wednesday afternoon in Warner, the Lady Tigers (0-2) cut their deficit to 2-1 in the third inning on a two-out, RBI double by Ayrland Jiles, but they got no closer as the Lady Eagles scored twice in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning for a 7-1 lead after four innings.

In defeat, Jiles hit an RBI double, Alyvia Warner singled and scored Central’s lone run and Riley Rowland and Brenliegh Allen both singled for Central.

Allen (0-2) suffered the loss, going the first four innings with three strikeouts. Jiles went the last two innings with two Ks.

CHECOTAH 11, CENTRAL 8

Tuesday in Checotah, the Lady Wildcats spoiled new Central coach Victor Pierce’s regularseason debut as they never trailed in the game. The Lady Tigers cut their deficit to 3-2 in the fourth inning on a pair of steals of home by Brenliegh Allen and Allie Harris, but they got no closer as the Lady ’Cats responded with a six-run fourth inning to take a 9-2 lead after four innings.

The Lady Tigers tried to rally as they scored five runs in the fifth inning and a single run in the sixth inning to cut Checotah’s lead to 9-8, but the Lady Wildcats got two big insurance runs in their half of the sixth inning to take an 11-8 lead into the seventh inning.

In defeat, Alyvia Warner was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Allen was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in, Harris was 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored, Camryn Gilliam was 2-for-4 with a double and Brianna Taylor doubled for Central.

Allen suffered the loss, although she fanned three batters in six innings.

EUFAULA 12, VIAN 1

Tuesday afternoon at Vian’s Armstrong Park, the Lady Ironheads (1-0 overall, 1-0 in district play) took control of the season opener between the two teams early.

Eufaula scored once in the first inning, four runs in the second inning, three runs in the third inning and once in the fourth inning for a 9-0 lead.

The lone run for the Lady Wolverines (0-1, 0-1) came in the sixth inning on a two-out, RBI double by Kala Gibbins.

In defeat, Gibbins hit an RBI double, while Eden Gilbert singled for Vian. Gibbins (0-1) took the loss, despite fanning seven batters, but the Lady Ironheads got to her for 10 earned runs and t w o unearned runs on 18 hits.

PORUM 14, WEBBERS FALLS 4

PORUM 16, WEBBERS FALLS 0

Tuesday in Porum, the Lady Warriors (0-2) were swept by the host Lady Panthers.

In the opener, the Lady Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 lead on an RBI single by Gracie Sturgell and a two-out, two-RBI double by Karla Bonilla, but it was all Porum after that as the Lady Panthers scored six runs in the first inning and four runs in the third inning for a 9-3 lead.

In defeat, Bonilla hit a two-run double, Sturgell hit an RBI single and scored once, Bridgette Baer and Bentley Ward each singled, Lextyn Chappell scored once and Katie Frazier scored twice for Webbers Falls.

Rhilee Jones (0-1) suffered the loss, although she recorded three strikeouts in three innings.

In the nightcap, Porum pitcher Leia Johnson three a two-hitter as the only offense mustered by the Lady Warriors was a pair of singles — one each by Baer and Ward.

The Lady Panthers gave Johnson all the run support needed with a 10-run first inning. Ward (0-1) suffered the loss.
