Key items on the agenda included the approval of the high school campus student cell phone policy, which aims to regulate mobile device usage to enhance focus and academic performance. This policy received unanimous support from the board members.
In a series of motions, the board approved the consent agenda, which included general and building fund purchase orders, and ratified a Medicaid billing contract with PPG for the 2024-25 school year. Additionally, they sanctioned the event center’s contract with Swimmer Custodial Services to ensure the facility’s upkeep.
The board also addressed staffing changes and additions. Leslie Staley and Arial Queen were appointed as temporary certified teachers for 6-12th grade math and lower elementary, respectively. Jake Constant was hired for a non-certified position and lay coaching duties. Constant also received approval as an adjunct teacher for Outdoor Education, Character Education, and Health/PE/Physical Life Skills.
A new after school program and policy were approved, reflecting the board’s commitment to extending educational and recreational opportunities for students beyond regular school hours. Revisions to the lower elementary, upper elementary and high school handbooks were also endorsed to align with updated educational standards and practices.
The meeting concluded with a notable change to the academic calendar. The board decided to adjust the start date for the 2024-25 school year from August 12 to Aug. 15, 2024. This change aims to better accommodate scheduling and operational needs.
