Sallisaw falls to FG; Webbers Falls gets 1st win of season

FORT GIBSON — The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds suffered a 12-2 road District 4A-6 loss to the host Fort Gibson Lady Tigers on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers (4-3 overall, 1-1 in district play) scored four runs in both of the first two innings for an 8-0 lead. After scoring once in the third inning, a three-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Brinley Mills doubled with a run batted in and a run scored, Jaycie Cox doubled with an RBI and Sydney Weedon doubled and scored once for the Lady Diamonds (1-3, 0-3).

Delaney Compton (1-3) took the loss as the Lady Tigers chased her from the pitching circle in the first inning. Madison Green went the next 1.2 innings, and Preslee Jackson got the last six Fort Gibson outs.

Senior outfielder Makenna Bormann underwent surgery Wednesday to repair her broken fingers she suffered sliding into second base on a steal attempt in Monday afternoon’s home opener against Poteau. Sallisaw coach Wes Green said Thursday morning that Bormann will be out the remainder of the season.

WEBBERS FALLS 11, OKMULGEE 7

Tuesday in Webbers Falls, the Lady Warriors (1-4) got their first win of the 2024 fast-pitch softball season, thanks to a big inning.

After the Lady Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Warriors cut the deficit to 2-1 after an inning, but Webbers Falls put away the game with a six-run second inning and a tworun third inning to take a commanding 9-2 lead after three innings.

The Lady Bulldogs got to within three runs at 10-7 in the sixth inning but got no closer.

For the game, Bridgette Baer was 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two runs batted in, Katie Frazier was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Bentley Ward was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Karla Bonilla was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Peyton Hobbs was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Lextyn Chappell tripled with an RBI and a run scored for Webbers Falls.

Rhilee Jones (1-3) got her first win of the season, striking out four batters in seven innings.

GANS 13, PITTSBURG 5

GANS 14, INDIANOLA 3

Tuesday in Indianola, the Lady Grizzlies (3-4) won both their two games in Tuesday’s road three-way.

In the win over Pittsburg, the Lady Grizzlies, who led 1-0 after an inning, put away the game with an eight-run second inning for a 9-0 lead. A two-run sixth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Abigail Leach was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored, while Maddie Freeman tripled with three RBIs and a run scored for Gans.

Leach (2-3) got the win, getting six strikeouts in six innings pitched.

In the victory over host Indianola, the Lady Grizzlies scored four runs in the opening inning for a 4-0 lead, which became a 10-1 advantage after two innings and a 12-2 lead after three innings. A two-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Gabbie Price was 4-for-4 with a a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, K’Cee Osborn was 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored, Leach was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, Freeman was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored and Aaliyah Taylor was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI for Gans.

Freeman (1-1) got her first win of the season, getting five Ks in four innings.

EUFAULA 6, ROLAND 0

Tuesday in Eufaula, the Lady Ironheads (5-0 overall, 4-0 in District 3A-8 play) scored twice in the first inning, single runs in the second and third innings and capped off things with a two-run sixth inning.

In defeat, Addyson Clark was 2-for-3 with a double, while Jaydance Bean was 2-for-3 for the Lady Rangers (3-4, 2-2).

McKinna Cooper (2-4) took the loss.

KIOWA 9, CENTRAL 1

PORUM 7, CENTRAL 6

Tuesday in Porum, the Lady Tigers (1-6) suffered a pair of road losses on Tuesday.

Against Kiowa, the Cowgirls broke a 1-all tie with a three-run third inning and a five-run fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Ayrland Jiles doubled for Central. Jiles (1-1) suffered her first loss of the season, despite recording three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

In the loss to host Porum, the Lady Panthers broke a 3-all tie with a run in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning for a 7-3 lead.

The Lady Tigers tried to mount a comeback, scoring three runs in the fifth inning but fell short.

In defeat, Jiles was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Brianna Taylor was 3-for-3 with a run scored, Allie Harris was 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored, Brenliegh Allen doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Camryn Gilliam doubled with an RBI for Central.

Allen (0-5) took the loss, although she fanned two batters in four innings.

SPIRO 5, VIAN 2

Tuesday in Spiro, after the Lady Wolverines (3-4 overall, 2-2 in District 3A-8 play) took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning, the Lady Bulldogs (41, 4-1) scored once in the first inning, three runs in the third inning and once in the fifth inning to get the comefrom- behind win. In defeat, Eden Girty was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Rayleigh Terrill was 2-for-3 and Kala Gibbins doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Vian.

Gibbins (3-4) took the loss, despite fanning four batters in six innings.
