By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

STIGLER — The Gore Lady Pirates made it to the loser’s-bracket final of the 2024 Riverside Conference Tournament, which took place Thursday and Friday at Stigler Sports Complex.

STIGLER — The Gore Lady Pirates made it to the loser’s-bracket final of the 2024 Riverside Conference Tournament, which took place Thursday and Friday at Stigler Sports Complex.

The Lady Pirates opened the tournament with a 7-4 win over Webbers Falls in Thursday’s opening-round game, but then lost 8-1 to Keota in the winner’sbracket semifinals later in the day.

Then, the Lady Pirates staved off elimination twice, beating Gans 10-1 on Thursday and getting another win over Webbers Falls, this time by the score of 13-4 on Friday.

However, the Lady Pirates lost 10-0 to Keota in the loser’sbracket final later on Friday.

The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors went 2-2 as they picked up a 6-5 win over the co-op Cameron-Arkoma team on Thursday, followed by a 5-3 win Friday over McCurtain.

It was a rough day Thursday for the Gans Lady Grizzlies in the RCT as they lost both games, losing 13-0 to McCurtain, then being eliminated from the tournament with a 10-1 loss to county rival Gore.

In the first win over Webbers Falls in the RCT, the Lady Pirates (7-6) scored three runs in the first inning and twice in the third inning for a 5-0 lead. The Lady Warriors (3-12) cut their deficit to 5-3 with a three-run third inning but got no closer.

For the game, River Shoemake singled with a run batted in and a run scored, Cheyenne Davidson singled with an RBI and Kennedy Williams singled and scored once for Gore.

Davidson (7-6) got the win, fanning four batters in 2.2 innings.

In defeat, Katie Frazier doubled and scored once for Webbers Falls.

Rhilee Jones (3-10) took the loss, despite fanning four batters in three innings.

In the first loss to Keota, the Lady Lions roared their way to an early lead as a three-run first inning and a four-run second inning put Keota ahead 7-0 after two innings.

Keota pitcher Jaycee Byrd threw a no-hitter as the only run Gore scored came in the third inning on Shoemake’s grounder.

In Gore’s victory over Gans, the Lady Grizzlies were two-hit by Davidson, who struck out five batters in four innings.

The Lady Pirates scored four runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning for a 7-0 lead after two innings.

The lone Gans run scored in the third inning on Gabbie Price’s RBI groundout, scoring Makinzie Kimble, to cut the deficit to 7-1, but the Lady Grizzlies got no closer.

Gore’s three-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Sophie O’Connor was 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs — a two-run, insidethe- park homer in the opening inning and a solo inside-thepark homer in the third inning — four RBIs and three runs scored, while Shoemake was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three runs scored for Gore.

In defeat, Madi Pilkington was 2-for-2 for Gans.

Maddie Freeman (2-5) took the loss, although she struck out four batters in three innings. Five of Gore’s runs scored on account of five Gans errors.

In Gore’s second tournament win over Webbers Falls, the Lady Pirates put away the game early with a 10-run first inning.

Davidson threw a two-hitter as the only blemishes against her were a single apiece by Webbers Falls hitters Lextyn Chappell and Gracie Sturgell.

For the game, O’Connor was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Ricki Huckbay was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored and Shoemake was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored for Gore.

Jones suffered the loss as she fanned two batters in two innings.

In the tournament-ending loss to Keota, Byrd, after throwing a no-hitter against Gore on Thursday, one-hit the Lady Pirates, who only could muster a single by Williams.

Davidson suffered the loss, although she fanned five batters in four innings.

In Webbers Falls’ win over Cameron-Arkoma, a three-run fourth inning rallied the Lady Warriors to the come-frombehind victory.

For the game, Chappell was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three runs scored, Bridgette Baer was 2-for-3 with a triple, an inside-the-park, two-run home run, three runs batted in and two runs scored, Karla Bonilla was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, Bentley Ward was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI and Bailey Ward was 2-for-2 for Webbers Falls.

Jones got her second win of the season, striking out four batters in four innings and throwing a five-hitter.

In Webbers Falls’ victory over McCurtain, the Lady Warriors scored twice in the opening inning for a 2-0 lead. After the Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit to 2-1 in the second inning, the Lady Warriors scored once in the third inning and twice in the fourth inning for a 5-1 lead.

For the game, Baer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Bailey Ward was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Webbers Falls.

Jones got her third victory of the fall as she struck out five batters in four innings and scattered four hits.

In Gans’ loss to McCurtain, the Lady Grizzlies (5-10) were no-hit by McCurtain pitcher Abby Bales, who struck out five batters in three innings.

McCurtain scored eight runs in the first inning for an 8-0 lead. A five-run second inning put the game into run-rule status.

Freeman took the loss, despite fanning four batters in two innings, but she was the unfortunate pitcher as none of McCurtain’s runs were earned due to seven Gans errors.
