Sallisaw School Superintendent Steve Barrett has issued a statement addressing a recent safety concern at Sallisaw Middle School. According to Barrett, the district was alerted through its anonymous reporting app, STOPit, about a potential threat to the middle school on Monday.

“As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students and staff, we want to inform you about a situation that occurred at Sallisaw Middle School,” Barrett stated in his message to the community.

Upon receiving the report, school officials acted promptly, collaborating closely with both campus police and the Sallisaw Police Department. The authorities swiftly addressed the threat, and Barrett confirmed that there is no ongoing danger to students or staff.

“We are pleased to inform you that the threat has been fully resolved, and there is no imminent danger to students or staff,” Barrett said. “The safety of our school community is always our top priority.”

In light of the incident, the school district will implement heightened security measures at its campuses for the day following the threat. Barrett also emphasized that the district is prepared to pursue strong disciplinary actions, including potential prosecution, against those responsible for such threats.

“We want to emphasize that at no point was there an imminent danger to any students or staff,” Barrett reassured the community. “Our counseling staff is available to offer support if needed, and we encourage parents to speak with their children about any concerns they may have.”

The superintendent concluded the statement by expressing appreciation for the community’s trust and support. He assured parents and guardians that the district remains dedicated to ensuring a safe learning environment for all students and staff.

For any additional questions or concerns, Barrett invited the community to reach out to the school administration at 918-775-5544.
