Hilldale Lady Hornets sting Lady Diamonds

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

A pair of four-run innings for the visiting Hilldale Lady Hornets helped them sting the host Sallisaw Lady Diamonds in Tuesday afternoon’s softball game as the visitors returned to Muskogee with a 9-3 win.

With the game tied at 1-all after four innings, the Lady Hornets (9-2) scored four runs in the fifth inning on a three-run double and a two-out, RBI single to increase Hilldale’s advantage to 5-1 after five innings.

The Lady Hornets put the game into run-rule status with four more runs in the sixth inning to make the score 9-1.

However, the Lady Diamonds (213) did not give up as they scored twice in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Natalie Gonzalez and Promise Flute to cut the deficit to 9-3 after six innings, and force the seventh and final inning.

Unfortunately, the Lady Diamonds could not get any closer.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when a two-out, RBI infield single put the Lady Hornets ahead 1-0 after three innings.

The Lady Diamonds tied the game at 1-all in the fourth inning on a one-out, RBI single by Gonzalez.

In defeat, Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored, Madison Green was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Channing Wilson was 2-for-4, Delaney Compton doubled and scored and Flute hit an RBI single for Sallisaw. Compton (2-11) suffered the loss.
