Cowboys finish 6th at Shale Players Championship

The Cowboys’ 54-hole total of 876, 12-over par, tied them with Oregon at the par-72, 7,007-yard layout. The two teams finished a shot behind Duke for fifth and two back of Pepperdine for fourth place. Arizona State was the lone team to break par at the event, finishing at 7-under 857 and 11 shots clear of the field.
Oregon’s Aiden Krafft posted a 4-under total of 212 to earn a one-shot victory in the individual race.
Making his Cowboy debut, Ethan Fang earned a top-10 finish, tying for eighth place at even-par 216 after closing with a 1-over 73. The sophomore transfer turned in 2-under 34 with birdies at the second and sixth holes. Fang moved to the top of the leaderboard with a birdie at the 11th before playing the closing seven holes in 4-over par for his 73.
Fellow sophomore transfer Eric Lee finished inside the top 20, tying for 19th place at 218 after carding a closing 74.
Sophomore Preston Stout posted a 77 to finish at 220 and tied for 29th place.
Freshman Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson’s 76 tied him for 46th place at 224, while sophomore Johnnie Clark signed for a 77 to finish at 227 and tied for 55th place.
Competing individually, John Wild joined Fang and Lee in the top 20, tying for 13th place. The junior carded his second consecutive 73 to finish at 1-over 217.
The Cowboys will be back in action Friday when they begin play at the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois.
